About Delhi

New Delhi, Delhi or locally called Dilli is the city of India. Delhi is the biggest metropolitan city of India which is perfect mix of modern as well as old charm of India. Delhi is the entry city of India with one of the biggest and brand new International Airport, most of the cities from all over the world are directly connected to New Delhi. Delhi is a home for many ancient and medieval sites as it is known to be inhabited as early as 6th century BC. Delhi is believed to be Indraprastha- the capital of Pandavas of Mahabharata. Delhi is the main cultural, political and commercial city from ancient time till now. After Mughal rule, Delhi was captured by British and in 1911 King George V made Delhi the capital of British Ruled India. After Independence on 15 Aug 1947 New Delhi was declared the capital of India.

Due to its vast history, Delhi is a famous city amount tourist all over the world. From Historical monuments to modern buildings Delhi has lot to offer to the discerning travellers. Delhi is also a gateway to major tourist Destinations of North India like Rajasthan, Kashmir, Himachal, Uttranchal and some parts of central India. The main tourist seasons starts from Oct and end till March as this is the weather is pleasant during these months , Dec and Jan are colder with min temperature can be as low as 8 Degrees. Summers are sometimes extremely hot with temperature upto 47 Degrees in June.

Places of Tourist Interest

Red Fort - constructed by Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan in 17th century and was the residence of Mughal Emperors.

Humayuns Tomb - built is 1562 AD by red sandstone, The Persian architect Mirak Mirza Ghiyath designed this tomb. Humayuns tomb is the first Garden tomb of India.

Qutub Minar - On of the tallest Minaret in India Qutub Minar was built by Qutb-ud-din Aibak in 1192 by red and black sandstone and marble. It is 72.5 meters high and has 379 stairs.

India Gate - was built in 1931 in the memory of 90000 soldiers of Indian Army who lost their life in world war I. This is also known as All India war memorial.

National Museum - This is one of the biggest museum in India having work of art of around 5000 years of both Indian and foreign origin. National Museum was established in 1949 and displays artwork from Pre Historic time.

Lotus Temple - Also called Bahai Tample is designed like a lutus petals, this temple is open for all religion. This temple has won many architectural awards.

Jama Masjid - also known as Masjid-I Jahan Numa built by Shah Jehan in 1658 AD is the largest mosque in India

Akshardham Temple : Also known as Swami Narayan Temple is a famous Hindu Temple, opened on 6th nov 2005 for visitors, this temples exhibit the life of Swaminarayan and History of India.

Other famous attractions in Delhi are President House, ISCKON Temple, Gandhi Memorial, Teen Murti Bhawan, Birla Temple, Purana Kila (Old Fort).

How to Reach

By Air - Delhi has International and domestic airports which is connected by direct flights from most of the domestic and International cities. The new Terminal T3 is the 8th largest airport terminal in the world. This terminal has 78 Aerobridges, 30 Parking Bays, 168 Checkin Counters, 72 Immigration counters and an automated multilevel car parking with 7 levels.

By Road - Delhi is connected by national highway with most of the important cities of India, NH1, NH2 and NH8. Buses to major cites of North India are available from Interstate Bus Terminal Non Ac and AC Deluxe buses including Volvos are operated on Major routes. Taxis and Tourist cars are easily available in Delhi.

By Train - Indian Railways connects all major cities including various state capitals to Delhi by Express trains. Rajdhani Express is a log route fully air-conditioned trains offering a comfortable journey including food with sleeper coach. Shatabdi Express is other superfast train which operates to state capitals of different states of North India, this train is having Air Conditioned Chair cars and the ticket is inclusive of food
